Newborn Session FAQs
When should I book my newborn session?
It is best to book ahead of time, even while you are still pregnant. We offer a limited number of newborn sessions each month so we can provide our clients undivided attention. We can schedule an approximate date, aiming for the first two weeks of baby's life, and then confirm the day once the baby is born.
When will my session take place?
Ideal range for newborn photographs is when baby is 7-10 days old. This is when babies are sleepiest and most comfortable with us posing them.
My baby is already born. Is it too late to schedule a newborn session?
No! Even though we highly recommend to book your newborn session ahead of time to ensure our availability for you, sometimes we have last minute openings. Also, even though we recommend photographing a baby during first two weeks for his/her life, we will gladly capture portraits of older newborns with understanding that some poses will not be possible to achieve.
Where will my newborn session take place?
You newborn session could take place at the studio or at the comfort of your home.
How long will my newborn session last?
If you will follow all our recommendations, newborn photo session will only take one hour.
What can I do to help my session go smoothly?
This is a VERY important question! The best thing you can do is relax. Besides that, we ask you to follow these steps:
Please try to keep your baby awake for an hour prior to the session.
Please feed your newborn at the beginning of the photoshoot. Not in your car on the way to the studio!
If you are breast feeding, it is very helpful to have a bottle of expressed milk on hand for use during our session.
If you use pacifiers they also could come in hand during the session to calm the baby
If you see that your baby is not feeling that well or in a bad mood due to a difficult sleepless night or colics, most likely it is best to reschedule.
Don't worry! Relax and let us create beautiful photos!
Do you include family photos with a newborn session?
Most of our attention will be on the newborn baby, but we will of course have several family photographs with parents and siblings.
What should we wear?
For the most part your newborn baby will be naked and covered by cute blankets, or wearing one of our adorable outfits. If you have your own outfits, please bring them with you to the session, and we will see if they are a good fit (some may be not due to the styling and uneasiness of putting them on/off). As far as for other people - parents and siblings, please consider solid colors and subtle patterns, nothing too busy on the eye. Color coordinating is great, but not mandatory.
Will there be props?
Yes! Either at the studio or at your home we can (and most likely will unless you say no) use props. We have lots of different baskets, vintage suitcases, blankets, backdrops, toys and other accessories.
What should I take with me to a photo session?
Please bring some food for the baby (if you are breast-feeding you will be able to feed the baby during the session
Please bring a snack for yourself too!
If you have any special personalized things for your baby that you'd like to incorporate into photos, have them with you.
It is helpful to have some baby lotion on hand, if your newborn's skin is a bit flaky.
Extra diapers and cleaning wipes.
